Surrey Hills Grocer: Aussie-Style Cafe & Grocer With Direct-to-Boot Concept in the West

Surrey Hills Grocer is an Aussie-Style Cafe & Grocer that aims to transport you back to Australia right here in the far west of Singapore! Thanks to its location, they hope to provide customers with an experience that’ll remind them of driving to a farm gate in Australia.

Australian Grocer in Singapore

Herbs and Spices Blend at Surrey Hills Grocer

While the store isn’t as big as we expected, you can still find everything you need here. There are products like avocados and fresh produce, to even bottles of Australian wine.

We loved how the herbs and spices corner was organized, with different blends such as ‘Vongole’, ‘Taco Nights’ and ‘Coles Roast Chicken’.

You can also find Australian brand products here, such as Rich Glen Olive Oil and Koko Black. We also spotted products from Melbourne-based Jomeis Fine Foods here.

Farm-to-Boot Concept

After shopping, you no longer need to struggle with your heavy bags! Surrey Hills boasts a farm-to-boot concept where you can simply park your car right at the entrance of the store, and the staff will help to load your groceries to your car boot.

Surrey Hills Cafe

When it comes to Australian-styled cafes, alfresco seating is the way to go. Surrey Hills Cafe only has an alfresco seating area, with around 40 seats. Despite the Singapore weather, we found our experience here to be rather comfortable as the place was nicely ventilated.

With the hanging plants and lights, the place is rather chill, if you ignore the carpark right beside the seating area.

Menu at Surrey Hills Cafe

The menu here at Surrey Hills Cafe consists of an all-day menu, a brunch menu that’s available from 10am to 2pm as well as a dinner menu. For brunch, you can expect items like Crayfish Benny ($24) and Fried Chicken Waffles ($20).

The All-Day Menu has items like Cod Fish Brioche Burger ($24), Seafood Pasta ($26), Steak Sandwich ($27), and more. For dinner, they have 3 additional pizzas where you can choose from.

Avo

Avo ($19), which is short for avocado, is Surrey Hill’s take on the iconic brunch menu item – avocado toast. You’ll find a medley of mashed avocadoes, whipped ricotta, and almond spiced dukkah along with dollops of vegemite emulsion served on top of sourdough slices.

While the word vegemite tends to draw some sort of a mixed reaction, the vegemite emulsion was well executed and added a nice umami to the overall dish.

Cinnamon Chocolate Swirl

The cafe also has some bakes on display, such as Croissants and Kouign Amann. We opted for the Cinnamon Chocolate Swirl ($6) which had a nice crispy exterior after it was heated up for us.

The kitchen closes from 3 pm to 6 pm, so during this period, you can only order drinks and bakes.

White

Coffee here is made using Proud Mary beans, the Humbler blend to be more specific. This particular blend boasts chocolate fudge, caramel, date & syrupy tasting notes. We found our White ($5) to be nicely balanced and was easy to drink.

If coffee is not your thing, you can opt for other beverages such as their Artisanal Sodas and Iced Shaken Teas.

Cafe in the West

Surrey Hills Grocer does bring something unique to the West, with its concept revolving around Australia. However, the location might not be the most accessible for some.
