Hidden right behind the Tanjong Pagar HDB Block 1 is Onze, an apartment complex with a variety of shops on the first floor. Over here, you can find Desem Bakery, as well as Sugar & Tease, a patisserie cafe serving coffee and tarts.
Sugar & Tease Patisserie Cafe
Before shifting over to Tanjong Pagar in May 2021, Sugar & Tease used to be located in Serangoon for a couple of years.
The patisserie cafe has a small dine-in area, which allows customers to enjoy their coffee and bakes immediately. The space is simple and pleasing to the eye, with a white coffee counter and attractive bakes on display.

The items that immediately drew our attention were the tarts, featuring flavours like Pomelo & Raspberry ($9), Dark Chocolate Praline ($8.5) and Mixed Berries ($9). These come in a nice single portion but are also available in sharing portions through enquiries.
They also have the One in a Melon ($7.5) which is a watermelon cake that used to be a trending item.
The cafe also has bakes such as Vanilla Lemon Loaf, Orange Passionfruit Loaf and Cookies.
Pistachio Musk Melon Tart
We went for the Pistachio Musk Melon Tart ($12) which had balls of musk melon on top of a tart filled with pistachio cream. We loved the tart crust, which had a crispy and crumbly texture.
The pistachio fragrance was subtle in comparison to the musk melon, which was bursting with natural sweetness.
Mixed Berries Tart
The Mixed Berries Tart ($9) had an array of ingredients such as blackberries, raspberries, strawberries and figs. Overall, this was not too sweet, since it was balanced out by the sourness of the berries.
Iced White
We decided to have a cup of coffee here and opted for the Iced White ($5) on a hot day. Sugar & Tease uses a blend of Colombian and Brazil beans, and a standard double shot for all their espresso-based drinks.
The coffee genuinely took us aback with its creaminess and well-balanced flavours.
Hidden Patisserie in Tanjong Pagar
Once in a while, it’s nice to discover hidden places within a neighbourhood that already has so much to offer. Sugar & Tease is a great place to grab some tarts for that upcoming birthday celebration or for a quick cuppa.
