Sampanman Kelong: Halal Seafood Restaurant at Jurong Point with Free-flow Chendol

West-siders – Sampanman Kelong has opened its second outlet at Jurong Point! The restaurant offers seafood dining inspired by traditional offshore kelongs.

The restaurant serves tingkat-style lunch sets, afternoon tea snacks with teh tarik, and charcoal-grilled seafood platters.

Retro Kampung Interior

The interior of Sampanman Kelong is designed to reflect the charm of traditional coastal living.

There’s warm wooden furnishings, fishing nets repurposed as light fixtures, and rustic decor elements to create a laid back atmosphere that pays homage to life on the sea.

Sampanman Kelong Menu

The menu features a variety of local flavours and is designed for sharing.

Their Assorted Sampan platters feature a variety of seafood served on mini sampan-inspired plates, paired with sauces like Singapore Chilli Crab, Salted Egg Yolk, and Sichuan Mala.

Highlights include the XXL Fisherman Sampan ($248) with Sri Lankan crab and Boston lobster while the Shellfish Sampan ($88) has mussels, prawns, and scallops.

To round out the meal, diners can add on 2-Tier ($14) or 3-Tier ($20) Tingkat sets. These have mains like Berempah Fried Chicken and vegetable sides, while the third tier has grilled seafood such as Har Cheong Squid or Seabass.

Sampanman Kelong also offers convenient charcoal-grilled lunch set meals from 11am to 5pm daily, served in 3-tier tingkat carriers. Each set includes jasmine or blue pea rice with sides like sambal matah, spicy egg sambal, and shrimp belachan vegetables.

Protein options include Mixed Seafood ($18.90), Salted Egg Yolk Fried Chicken ($12.90), and Nanyang Chicken Curry ($11.90).

The drinks menu is quite extensive, featuring options like Lemon with Sour Plum Yogurt ($4.90), Kelong Gula Melaka Kopi ($4), and Teh Tarik with Cincau ($4) for those looking for unique and refreshing pairings.

Jurong Exclusives

Kelong Charcoal Grilled Kicap Manis Small Sampan

Exclusive to Sampanman Kelong’s new Jurong Point outlet, the Kelong Charcoal Grilled Kicap Manis Small Sampan is a seafood platter designed for two.

We got the Grilled Shellfish Sampan ($39) featuring a generous mix of flower clams, prawns, and half-shell scallops in a choice of spicy or non-spicy kicap manis.

We really enjoyed this dish! The seafood was fresh, the sauce was addictive, and the portion was just nice for two people.

The food is also served on a hotplate, ensuring that it always stay warm. It’s served with a side of sambal matah, a raw Indonesian chili relish, which added an extra kick of heat!

Tingkat Add-ons

We tried the Tingkat 2 Tier (S$14) with a choice of stir-fried french fine bean  and berempah fried chicken.

While the vegetables were plain, the berempah fried chicken was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside.

It was especially tasty when dipped in the kicap manis sauce from the seafood platter!

Drinks

We also got a Cham Cincau  ($4) and the  Teh Tarik Zaffran (S$6), which is infused with saffron for a richer, more aromatic take on the traditional milk tea.

We really enjoyed the drinks, which had a deep, robust coffee flavour.

Free Flow Chendol

One of the standout perks at Sampanman Kelong Jurong Point is the free-flow chendol available with any dine-in meal!

There are also complimentary add-ons like nostalgic ice gem biscuits and goldfish biscuits.
