Peter Beier, an award-winning chocolatier from Denmark has soft-launched his luxury chocolates for the first time in Singapore. However, at $29 for 5 pieces, will these chocolates be worth the money?
Peter Beier Chocolates
From all production and out in the stores, Peter Beier chocolate uses cocoa beans from its own plantation in the Dominican Republic and raw materials from Ørsholt Gods, its 130 hectares garden in Denmark that houses fields of apples, pears, cherries, almonds, walnuts and many other seasonal ingredients.
Heart Collection
The heart collection is a box containing either 5-pieces or 10-pieces of heart-shaped chocolates. Each box contains an assortment of:
- Ruby Heart: filled with strawberry ganache and covered with ruby chocolate
- Orange Heart: filled with ganache and orange oil, covered with dark chocolate
- Nougat Heart: filled with ganache and covered with milk chocolate
- Amber Heart: filled with hazelnuts ganache and covered with amber chocolate with seaberry
If you’re wondering what ruby chocolates are, they are made using reddish ruby cocoa beans, which is what gives it its natural pink colour.
Ruby chocolates have a slightly sour taste with sweet and natural notes of berries.
Is it Worth $29?
Ruby Heart
While the Ruby Heart was the highlight of the box, it was not that mind-blowing. We did enjoy the subtle sourness and tartness of chocolate though. The ganache had a nice strawberry taste to it.
In hindsight, we did eat them immediately after taking them out from the fridge, so it was not stored in an optimal temperature of 12 to 18 degrees.
Orange Heart
There was a nice balance between the chocolate and orange flavours. We actually preferred this to the ruby heart. As orange oil was used in the making of this chocolate, the fragrance of the citrus fruit really stood out.
Nougat Heart
The nougat heart had an intense hazelnut taste and a flowy centre. This was really sweet despite the hazelnut flavour.
Amber Heart
Our favourite chocolate from the lot. The hazelnut taste is just right, with a nice, light mint aftertaste that some might even miss.
We personally think that $29 is an extravagant price to pay for 5 pieces of chocolate. However, if you’re a person who chases after quality, these Peter Beier Chocolates are the real deal.
Ruby chocolates aren’t as common as milk or dark chocolate here in Singapore, so if you’re curious and have yet to try it, the best time to try them would be now.
These boxes of chocolates would also make a perfect gift for your foodie friends and chocolate lovers.
