Mimine Tteokbokki: Get A Taste of Hongdae’s Popular Soup Tteokbokki At Home with Their Meal Kits

With the pandemic continuing to put a hold on our travels to Korea, we find ourselves trying to find more ways to experience Korea in Singapore. One of the things we miss the most is street food and specialty bunsik stores in Korea. But thankfully, you can now get a taste of Korea’s street food right in the comfort of your home thanks to BlueBasket!

Mimine Tteokbokki Meal Kits

In case you’re not familiar with the name Mimine, it’s a popular store in Hongdae selling tteokbokki, fritters, and rice balls. They’re the ones that came up with the soup tteokbokki dish!

There are a total of 3 different Mimine Tteokbokki Meal Kits:

Each meal kit is good to feed 3 pax. To get the best idea of how the Mimine Tteokbokki Meal Kit tastes like, we started off with the Original Soup Tteokbokki.

Original Soup Tteokbokki Set

The set comes with a packet of wheat rice cakes, a packet of Busan Goraesa fish cakes, and a packet of seasoning.

It’s super easy to make – just add water, the rice cakes, and sauce into a large pan and boil them at high heat.

Once the rice cakes start to float upwards, turn the heat to medium and add the fishcakes.

Depending on your preference, you can add extra ingredients like vegetables and mushrooms. For us, we topped it off with some hard-boiled eggs, deep-fried seaweed rolls, glass noodles, and some green onions.

Mimine Original Tteokbokki Taste Test

Having tried our fair share of frozen tteokbokki kits, we weren’t really expecting much from the Mimine one, but this really exceeded all our expectations.

Firstly, the rice cakes were chewy and had such a nice texture. Turns out, they managed to let the rice cakes go through some sort of aging process where they retained the moisture in the dough.

In the beginning, we thought that the portion was barely enough for 3. However, after boiling and cooking them, they expanded in size and the amount is definitely more than enough.

The sauce was a lovely, nice balance of sweet and spicy flavours. The spice level was bearable for us, reminding us of the ones you find in Korean street carts. For those who love spicy food, go for the Spicy version instead.

We highly recommend getting some Korean seaweed rolls or making some deep-fried sides (twigim). Dip them in the sauce and you’ll really feel like you’re in Korea.

Instead of glass noodles, you can add instant noodles to make rabokki for a more filling meal.

If you’re a fan of fishcake, you can go for the fishcake noodle set. It comes with a pack of noodles made using Busan Goraesa’s fishcakes.
