Opened by Little House of Dreams, LUNA Diner+Bar is a new cafe, restaurant, and bar over at The Grandstand. They are currently in their soft launch phase and will officially launch on 15 October 2021. From brunch items to bar food and fusion mains, LUNA might make a great brunch spot for you and your friends!
Pet-Friendly Cafe at The Grandstand
At LUNA Diner+Bar, you can choose to sit indoors or opt for the alfresco seats. They also have a pet-friendly patio for your furry friends!
During our time of visit, the communal table and patio were still work in progress but the cafe has recently updated their patio in new aesthetic rattan chairs. There’s also a cute chill-out space that overlooks a playground behind.
Parents, grab a drink and chill with your kiddos nearby!
Menu at LUNA Diner+Bar over at The Grandstand
Since LUNA Diner+Bar was still in soft launch at our time of visit, some of the items that we wanted to try were unavailable such as the Grilled Mains that include 2 sides and 1 sauce ($14.90 – $39.90), the Fish Tempura Charcoal Waffles ($13.90) and the Cold Brew Rose Lychee ($8.90).
In the end, the staff kindly recommended a few items such as the Sakura Ebi Pasta ($14.90) and Pork Belly Donburi ($15.90).
Sakura Ebi Pasta
The Sakura Ebi Pasta ($14.90) was cooked al dente and had a nice texture to it. It was coated with the Chef’s Special Sauce that was pretty addictive. You can also expect a slight crunch from the black tobiko and sakura shrimp that provide a burst of umami flavours in your mouth.
We were also glad that the garlic flavour was not too overpowering. Overall, it was a dish that played with both flavours and textures together.
Pork Belly Donburi
At first glance, the Pork Belly Donburi ($15.90) portion may look small but it was really filling! With shredded crispy potatoes and edible flowers decorated on the donburi, one might mistake it for a dessert!
The 24h Sous Vide Pork Belly had a slight caramelization and the fats just melted in our mouths. Despite the meat being slightly on the dry side, we felt that it was nicely balanced out by the texture of the fats present. The shredded crispy potatoes also added a slight crunch!
Despite the Japanese rice being a tad bit on the drier side, there was enough sauce from the sautéed shimeji mushrooms to make up for it. We found that the mushrooms were a bit too salty and had to pair it with the pork belly, rice, and onsen egg to tone down the saltiness. The onsen egg was the cherry on top, which helped to add a certain level of creaminess to the dish.
Iced Caramel Latte
Using Tiong Hoe Specialty Coffee beans to make their coffee, their Iced Caramel Latte ($8,90) was smooth, fragrant, and not so much on the acidic side. With the caramel syrup adding sweetness to the drink, this is perfect for those who do not like to drink strong and bitter coffee! (hopefully, the people from Coffee Snobs don’t come after us for this)
Iced Earl Grey Lychee Tea
The Iced Earl Grey Lychee Tea ($6.90) came with 3 lychees and was topped with a sprig of mint. When we first took a sip of the drink, the earl grey flavour was prominent and the lychee blended well with the fragrant floral, citrusy tea and provided a subtle sweetness to cut through the bitterness of the tea.
Signature Buttermilk Waffle
Lastly, we were recommended the Signature Buttermilk Waffles ($10.90) that came with a single scoop of ice cream of your choice, either vanilla or chocolate, fresh strawberries, and chocolate or salted caramel sauce. We went with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce!
The waffles were thick and fluffy and paired well with the ice cream and chocolate sauce with fresh sweet and tangy strawberries on the side. However, the ice cream and chocolate sauce did have a slightly artificial taste.
