KimSs’ Bake: Home-Based Bakery Has Popular Korean Creamy Injeolmi Buns

Looks like Korean buns are still in trend, especially after the Garlic Cream Cheese Buns started appearing in local bakeries. Apart from that, the next most popular Korean-inspired bake has definitely got to be the Injeolmi buns.

If you’re unsure of what Injeolmi is, it’s basically a Korean rice cake (tteok), kind of like the local snack, muah chee. Instead of peanuts, the rice cake is coated in roasted soybean powder.

KimSs Bake Injeolmi and Matcha Cream Buns

Home-Based Bakery KimSs’ Bake

KimSs’ Bake is a home-based bakery that offers bakes such as cookies, brownies and rotating specials like the Injeolmi buns. The Instagram-based store was started back in Aug 2020 by a mother-daughter duo. The big and small Ss represent their names, Mama S and daughter s.

They sell items that they have baked for quite some time now, with their recipes tweaked to a desired texture and sweetness. Their bakes are fresh and made with quality ingredients.

Injeolmi Red Bean Buns

The Injeolmi Red Bean Buns are a seasonal item and are listed for sale occasionally. The cream buns are so popular that they decided to introduce a matcha version one as well.

The buns are coated with a generous amount of roasted soybean powder. Once you bite into one of these, you’ll see how much injeolmi cream there is on the inside. Besides the cream, there was also a layer of red bean paste and a thin layer of mochi.

While we didn’t expect much of the mochi, the texture of it was delightful. The chewiness complimented well with the overall bun.

The red bean paste kind of reminded us of the local red bean pau, with a tinge of sweetness. The star of the show came in the form of the injeolmi cream which was creamy and light.

Overall, the bun was not too sweet and perfect for those who love Injeolmi desserts.

Matcha Injeolmi Cream Buns

Did someone say matcha + red bean + mochi? Sounds like a perfect combination! And that is exactly what the Matcha Injeolmi Cream buns are.

First bite in and you taste the bitterness of the matcha, before the light sweetness of the cream and red bean hits.

Other Bakes Available As Well

Apart from the Injeolmi Cream Buns, KimSs’ Bake offers a range of baked goods such as gooey brownies, cookies and even cream puffs.

Their Double Blackout Cookie comes in a mesmerizing shade of black and is topped with Oreo crumbles. The cookie is made with 60% dark chocolate couverture and 36% milk chocolate couverture.

If you’re wondering what gives the cookie the black colour, it’s because they used black cocoa infused dough – so you can expect a decadent cocoa taste throughout!
