KimchiXpress Review: DIY Bibimbap Stall At Suntec’s Big Appetite Food Court

Think salad bar but in the form of a Bibimbap. KimchiXpress has a new outlet in Suntec’s Big Appetite Food Court over at Tower 3. Here, you can choose from an array of proteins and vegetables and make your own Bibimbap.

DIY Bibimbap in Singapore

Said to be the first DIY Bibimbap in Singapore, the KimchiXpress stall is located all the way in the corner over at Suntec’s Big Appetite Food Court.

They have 3 different bowls for their DIY Bibimbap:

You can find an array of toppings for your Bibimbap over here, almost like an actual salad bar. For the staple, you can choose from white rice or brown rice.

Some toppings you can find are broccoli, potatoes, radish kimchi, cucumbers, and beansprouts. As for the proteins, they have spicy stir-fried pork, grilled chicken thigh and bulgogi beef. The beef was unfortunately sold out by the time we visited.

Here’s what we tried:

DIY Bibimbap: Spicy Pork + Spinach + Radish Kimchi

Served in a hot stone bowl, your chosen toppings are placed on top of the rice and drizzled with a generous amount of gochujang.

We really enjoyed the stir-fried pork which had a nice smokey flavour that went well with the sweet and spicy gochujang. The radish kimchi had a refreshing crunch which added a nice form of texture to the bibimbap when mixed.

DIY Bibimbap: Grilled Chicken Thigh + Mushrooms + Kimchi

The grilled chicken thigh was cooked perfectly, juicy and had an almost crispy skin. We loved how the rice at the bottom became slightly scorched, which is one of the best things about eating out of a stone pot.

They were also really generous with their portions.

Apart from DIY Bibimbaps, KimchiXpress also has a range of stews such as Kimchi Jjigae ($7.90, $9.90), Ginseng Chicken Thigh Soup ($9.90) and Pork Ribs Stew ($12.90).

Kimchi Pork Belly Stew

While KimchiXpress may be physically located in a food court, the quality of their Kimchi Pork Belly Stew ($9.90) is nothing like the ones you get from a typical food court.

The soup had a nice balance of sour and spicy flavours and we found ourselves going back for more. While the pork belly meat wasn’t exactly melt-in-your-mouth, it was more tender than what we expected, especially in a food court setting.

Quality Korean Food in Suntec

KimchiXpress is a great option for anyone who wants a quick meal but is not willing to compromise on food quality. With freshly made DIY Bibimbap ingredients and stews that aren’t watery, you can expect a value-for-money hearty meal right in the heart of Suntec.
