Foreword Coffee Launches First of Its Kind Brew Bags: Coffee in Tea Bag Form

Foreword Coffee is a social enterprise that hires differently-abled individuals with conditions such as autism, cerebral palsy and mild intellectual disabilities etc. They believe that there is a unique story behind every person. Foreword Coffee hopes that customers will look beyond the products and services that the baristas provide and seek to know each of their deeper stories by interacting with them.

One thing that coffee lovers really love is having good coffee in the comfort of their homes. This is made possible via espresso machines, coffee pods and even drip bags.

Foreword coffee has gone a step further to be the first company in Singapore to launch Brew Bags.

What Are Brew Bags?

Foreword Coffee Brew Bag Flavours

Simply put, brew bags are tea bags filled with grounded coffee instead of tea leaves.

The coffee beans are roasted by Foreword Coffee before being sent to undergo a nitrogen flush packaging process to ensure maximum freshness. This way, you get the perfect aroma and flavour when you drink that cup of coffee.

This is something like third-wave coffee in Kopi-O packaging.

There are 4 different variations of the brew bags.

Caring for the environment is one of Foreword Coffee’s core values as they encourage customers to bring their own cups to minimize the amount of waste. You’ll be glad to know that the Brew Bags are biodegradable as well.

Coffee Review

The brew bags are significantly larger than your normal tea bags. The brewing guide provided by Foreword Coffee suggests leaving the brew bags in for more than 5 minutes before drinking it.

Brew bags use an immersion method while drip bags use a filter method so there is definitely some difference in terms of flavour.

We did find that the Brew Bag Coffee is less intense than filter coffee or drip bag coffee. In the beginning, there isn’t a huge difference between the four different coffee blends in terms of flavour. Towards the end, there is a slight difference between the tasting notes. Perhaps it’s the packaging, but we did find it quite similar to tea.

Among the 4, we found the Pong’s Honey to be our favourite from the lot, with a nice subtle sweetness towards the end.

Interesting Fact: The Diversity Blend is made up of the Laos Xamtai, Yunnan Lafu and Chiangmai Pong’s Honey which signifies the diversity Foreword Coffee has, where they train and hire differently-abled persons.

Perhaps the most attractive factor for these Brew Bags is convenience. No extra equipment needed for quality coffee. Simply brew, wait and drink.
