Crusty’s Goes Back To The Basics: Original Soy Skin Crisps Review

Crusty’s started back in 2016 and slowly made its way up while constantly ‘Redefining Snacks’ and coming up with new flavours. Think Mala Salted Egg Fish Skin and Wasabi Seaweed Soy Skin Crips. But now the local homegrown brand is going back to basics with the Original Soy Skin Crisps.

Brand New Original Soy Skin Crisps

We’re not sure if you guys have come across this post from Crusty’s.

While the medicated ointment flavour might have been an April’s Fool joke, there is really a new snack from Crusty’s!

Previously, their soy skin crisps came in two flavours: Salted Egg and Wasabi Seaweed. The latest addition is the Original Soy Skin Crisps for that pure aromatic soybean flavour.

These vegetarian mock goose (zai er) chips are made of crispy rolled bean curd skin, which reminded us of those you get at your neighbourhood vegetarian stall.

Visually, they look similar to the crispy taukee you tend to get at vegetarian food stalls, but slightly thicker. Because of this, each bite had a nice crunch to it, which we really loved.

Compared to the salted egg and wasabi seaweed flavours, the original soy skin crisps feel more down to earth, and you can really taste the savoury taukee flavours.

The back of the packaging did mention that you can get creative and use the chips to dress your salads or rice. We do see ourselves adding this as a side dish to our meals, especially for the more boring meals. Is this a Singaporean version of banchan?

Unlike their previous snacks that can easily be found in supermarkets, Watsons outlets and Petrol Kiosk stations – the OG Soy Skin Crisps is going to be an exclusive online item.
