BlueBasket Meal Kit Review: Andong Jjimdak and Soondubu Jjigae In The Comfort Of Your Home

BlueBasket has easily become one of our favourite online Korean marts in Singapore. The website sells lots of items that you can’t easily find in Singapore, from kitchenware to fresh fruits and vegetables directly flown in from Korea. Their latest product? A Korean meal kit curated from scratch.

The meal kits from BlueBasket are all curated personally by them, including the recipes. For now, there are three different meal kits – Andong Jjimdak, Soondubu Jjigae and Mille-Feuille Nabe.

They contain individually packed fresh ingredients in the perfect recipe ratio, so all you need to do is just follow the recipe provided.

We tried the Andong Jjimdak and Soondubu Jjigae meal kits, and here’s how our experience went

Andong Jjimdak Meal Kit

While Andong Jjimdak is not exactly as popular as army stew or KBBQ in Singapore, it’s one of those dishes you need to try when in Korea! There’s usually a lot of preparation involved in making this dish, such as preparation of the ingredients and finding the right ratio of sauces.

However, with BlueBasket’s Andong Jjimdak Meal Kit, everything is prepared so all we really needed to do was add everything to a pot and cook it.

Inside the meal kit, you’ll find potato, carrots, green onions, chilli, chopped up raw chicken parts, rice cake, sauce and more! Our only complaint was the length of the glass noodles, which were short and broken.

The dish was easy to make while following the instructions, and mainly required lots of cooking time.

This isn’t part of the cooking process, but we found that adding a drizzle of sesame oil helped to make it more savoury and delicious!

Taste-wise, it had a mix of peppery and slightly spicy notes with a soy-sauce based savouriness. If you want it less salty (or saltier?), you can simply add in more or less water. We loved how the potatoes and carrots had their edges trimmed, so they break off less easily.

BlueBasket also recommends making some fried rice with remaining gravy, for a perfect K-food experience.

Soondubu Stew Meal Kit

While we’ve tried making Soondubu Jjigae previously using silken tofu and egg tofu, it’s just not the same. The one provided in the Soondubu Jjigae meal kit is an authentic Korean soft tofu.

Not kidding, when we cut open the soft tofu packaging, there was an intense soy fragrance.

The Soondubu Stew Kit also came with sliced beef, for a deeper and richer flavour. While the ingredients provided have already been prepared beforehand, you can also choose to cut them into smaller pieces for easier consumption.

The only thing that wasn’t provided was the egg for the finishing touch, but this shouldn’t be an issue since most people should have eggs at home.

Maybe it was because the soft tofu used was different, but this was such a refreshing dish with the perfect amount of spiciness. It definitely calls for a bowl of rice and would make a quick meal for anyone, especially for those WFH.

Also, do note: the meal kits should be consumed within 3 days of purchase.
