Alkove: French-Inspired Cafe In Kovan Has New Additions Including Seafood Stew and Squid Ink Pasta

Located in the Kovan neighbourhood, Alkove serves up French-inspired cuisine that’s both delightful to the palate and friendly to the pocket. Head Chef Haikal Johari has spiced up Alkove’s menu by introducing 4 dishes that merge French & European flavours with a hint of Singaporean and Asian flair.

Aesthetic Cafe in Singapore

Interior of Alkove

When you step into Alkove, you’re greeted by soft pastel furnishings. With its bright and simplistic interior, this place was aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

The place is also pet-friendly so feel free to bring your fur  buddies! Just a heads-up: you’ll need to take an outdoor spot, so we recommend coming by during the evening to avoid the afternoon heat.

Alkove Menu

Alcove has an extensive menu that spans from hearty mains to desserts. The crowd’s favourites are the French Onion Soup ($12.90) and Smoked Otah Muffin ($18.90).

They also do all-day brunch where you can savour breakfast-style goodies like the Prawn & Avocado Tartine ($17.90). Desserts at Alkove are also Insta-worthy, with treats like French Toast ($15.90) and Bread Butter Pudding ($13.90).

Canapé Platter

If you stop by Alkove this October between 11:30am – 3pm from Monday to Friday, you get to enjoy a complimentary canapé platter

The platter boasts a trio of crispy mashed potato, Belgian waffles, and a pizza on sourdough bread.

Seafood Stew

This is a French-style Bouillabaisse but with a little twist! With hints of saffron and Korean Ssamjang, this Seafood Stew ($21.90) is a hearty dish. It was generously filled with mussels, clams, prawns, and baby scallops with a rich tomato sauce. Each bite had a umami and sweetness from the seafood without being too cloying.

Squid Ink Pasta

The Squid Ink Pasta ($21.90) is a refreshing change from the conventional red pasta. Despite its black colour, it had a deep flavour and subtle spicy kick that lingered at the end to cut through the oiliness.

The dish was elevated with the fried baby squids! Each morsel was crispy on the outside while soft within, adding a contrast to every bite.

Alkove Crispy Winglets

The Crispy Winglets ($12.90) were one of our favourites, with the dipping sauce being the true star of the show! It is a blend of the classic French vierge and Alkove’s house-made cincalok. The sauce was a balance of sour, spicy and salty, similar to the chilli of beloved Thai chicken rice.

Cafe In Kovan

With its welcoming ambience and delectable flavours, Alkove is worth a second trip! Open till 10:30pm, Alkove is the perfect evening spot for post-work or post-school dinners to catch up with friends.
