Acoustics Coffee Bar: Previous AMK Cafe Finds New Home at 61 Neil Road

Previously located within an HDB area in Ang Mo Kio, Acoustics Coffee Bar (previously known as Acoustics Cafe) has found a new home in a shophouse over at Neil Road. The cafe opened back in 2019 and has come a long way since then.

Previously Known as Acoustic Cafe at Ang Mo Kio

Acoustics Coffee Bar Neil Road Ordering Counter

We still remember Acoustics Coffee Bar’s previous home at AMK which was small but had a cozy and welcoming atmosphere with the iconic wall of bunny drawings.

Back then, they used to place acoustic panels on their walls as well.

Over at the Neil Road outlet, you can see the beautiful timber acoustic panels decorated on the walls as well as fabric-covered walls which help to absorb sound. They all come together to help Acoustics Coffee Bar create a warm atmosphere where customers can enjoy a cuppa.

Acoustics Coffee Bar Interior

Their new space is split into two via a glass door, featuring an alfresco seating area that can sit up to 9 pax and an indoor air-conditioned section that can sit up to 16 to 18 pax.

All orders can be made at the counter which is in the alfresco seating area.

We especially loved the combination of wooden and rattan elements used for the interior, which helped create a really warm, cozy, and inviting atmosphere.

Inside, you can also spot a bright yellow couch along with some fancy sound speakers/equipment.

Acoustics Coffee Bar Menu

The cafe serves All-Day Brunch with items such as Fluffy Pancakes ($12), Brie & Raspberry Sourdough Toast ($10), and Brie & Mushroom Croissant ($13). You can also find mains such as Salmon Lemon Buttercream Spaghetti ($18) and Laksa Cream Spaghetti ($20).

For coffee, you have the usual items as well as teas such as Lavender Tea Latte ($5-6). For pastries, they are all displayed near the ordering counter.

Egg in a Hole

We tried the Egg in a Hole ($14) which was a recommended menu item. It’s essentially a sourdough toast topped with melted cheese, roasted mushrooms and runny egg yolk served with a side salad.

The sourdough toast had a nice crispy exterior, and the roasted mushrooms were juicy and plump. Just like the description, there was a “hidden”, flowy egg yolk in the middle amongst the cheese.

The vegetables used in the side salad were all fresh and crisp, which came with just the right amount of tangy salad dressing.

Iced White

Acoustics Coffee Bar uses Ethiopian beans with a medium to dark roast for their coffee. It was not bad, but we did feel like it was slightly towards the acidic side.

Iced Orange Mocha

The Iced Orange Mocha ($8) had a nice balance of chocolate and orange flavours. There was also an orange peel inside the drink. Fans of the orange and chocolate combo would definitely enjoy this!

Acoustics Coffee Bar Dinner Menu

The cafe has also added a new dinner menu that’s available every Friday & Saturday from 5pm to 9pm.

Crab Salad & Forest Gem

The Crab Salad ($17) is Romaine lettuce-based salad with blue swimmer crab tossed in their homemade sweet chili lime dressing. On the other hand, the Forest Gem ($15) is a Kale mix salad with roasted tomatoes and mushrooms topped with mandarin oranges, grated grana padano, and drizzled with balsamic reduction.

Mushroom Beef Truffle Cream Pasta

Topped with 8hr sous-vide beef slices that were tender, the Mushroom Beef Truffle Cream Pasta ($28) is made using an in-house roasted mushroom paste. The paste uses Italy-imported truffle oil which provided the dish with fragrant whiffs of truffle.

Grilled Salmon Steak

Using a fresh salmon fillet, the Grilled Salmon Steak ($24) came with roasted root vegetables, spicy edamame and is topped with a balsamic reduction, pistachio, and pink peppercorn.

Roasted Chicken Quinoa Bowl

The Roasted Chicken Quinoa Bowl ($24) came with corn, wakame, mandarin oranges, cherry tomatoes, and spicy edamame.

Honey Oat Affogato

The Honey Oat Affogato ($9) is made with a double shot of espresso and a scoop of manuka honey oat ice cream that’s specially crafted for Acoustics Coffee Bar by Apiary and is oat-based and 100% dairy-free.

New Coffee Spot in Outram Park/Tanjong Pagar

While we didn’t manage to get a spot inside, we’re really curious as to whether the acoustic panels help in terms of noise management. Hopefully, the next time we visit, we’ll manage to get a spot inside and music will be allowed. Update: The inside has a really nice ambiance with music playing and you don’t have to talk very loud thanks to the acoustic panels!

However, even in the alfresco seating area, some portion of the interior is also decorated with a cream-colored fabric kind of acoustic panel. You can really tell that they aim to create an echo-free talking atmosphere for their customers.

The staff was friendly and polite despite it being sort of busy on their first day of operations.
