51 Tras: Tanjong Pagar Cafe Is An Aesthetic Creative Space, Reminds Us Of Korean Cafes

Located along Tras Street, 51 Tras is probably one of the most aesthetic cafes that opened in Singapore this year. With its name accurately depicting its location, cafehoppers will have no trouble finding the space.

If you look at their Instagram profile, they also have a second name called Eclipse. So, the big question is, are they called 51 Tras or Eclipse? Well, turns out Eclipse is a project name that the owners of 51 Tras created because they view their space as a host for people and things to come together, align and create an experience together.

Instagrammable Cafe in Singapore

Combining elements we love, from pebble-washed counters and floors to wooden tables and a skylight roof, 51 Tras hits almost all the marks of an aesthetic cafe. On top of that, there’s a tree near the back of the cafe, surrounded by rocks that double as tables and chairs.

Much work has been invested in the interior, such as the hanging lights you see over each table, handcrafted from scratch according to the staff.

51 Tras Menu

Currently, the cafe carries different items from different brands. You can find pastries by Tigerlily Patisserie here, alongside cakes by Francis Wong and SG Chee Cheong Fun by Ben Yeo.

The pastries were rather popular, with the Laksa Quiche ($8) and Muachee Mochi Blondie ($8) sold out on a Saturday afternoon. Other pastries include the Haebi Hiam Brioche ($8) and Gula Melaka Coconut Babka ($8).

For cakes, they all come in a cute sphere shape, such as the Moon Walker ($9), made with black sesame mousse, salted caramel, and a green tea crunch.

For drinks, they have espresso-based drinks like Black ($6) and White ($6.50) alongside Mocha ($6.50) and Einspanners ($8.50 to $9). Non-coffee drinks include Lemonade ($6), Orange Cream Soda ($7), and Honey Orange Chocolate ($7).

Pacific Rim

The Pacific Rim ($9) is a bright orange coloured cake made from Mandarin Yuzu Mousse, Milk Chocolate Curd, and Crunchy Coconut. The combination reminded us of the classic chocolate and orange pairing, which was familiar. However, we did expect more yuzu from the mandarin yuzu mousse, which would have made the overall dessert more refreshing. However, the mousse was light and palatable, which we enjoyed.

Ring Of Fire

The Ring of Fire ($16.5) is flambeed at your table and would probably look better when ordered at night instead of during the day. Comprising Mandarin Orange Sorbet, and a Pistachio Gelato + Raspberry Coulis center, this was one of our favourites during our visit.

The charred marshmallow exterior added a smokiness to the overall dessert which balanced perfectly with the citrusy flavours.

Einspanner

We tried both versions of the Einspanner (Black & White). One featured cream topped over black coffee while the other had cream topped on a white. We liked the flavours of the coffee, which were fruity and well-bodied. 51 Tras uses a blend of Brazilian and Ethiopian beans from Cumulo Coffee.

Cafe Near Tanjong Pagar

From Thursday to Saturday nights, 51 Tras is also a bar where you can indulge in cocktails, beers and even sake & shochu.

With a great first impression, we look forward to what 51 Tras has to offer in the future. One’s thing for sure, this won’t be our last visit to the aesthetic establishment.
