Combining the German word for sea, ‘meer’ with the word ‘us’, Usmeer is an accommodation in Yangyang that symbolizes a space exclusively for you and me. This small town in Gangwon-do is a popular summer destination among locals, and Usmeer offers a tranquil experience.
A Moment Of Respite
Located right by the ocean, we were greeted by the gentle sound of waves when preparing to check in to Usmeer. Our first impression of the neighborhood was that it was peaceful, as all we could hear were waves and seagulls.
Checking in was straightforward and convenient, with the hosts providing all the necessary information. All we had to do was key in the digital lock password, and we were in.
We were welcomed by a quaint courtyard just beyond the entrance, with yard chairs available to sit and gaze at the sky. There’s also a small shower area here, where you can conveniently wash up before or after heading to the beach.
A View Of The Ocean
The interior is split into a few areas, but our favourite corner was the living room and dining area.
This area featured ceiling-to-floor windows overlooking the sea. This meant an unobstructed ocean view while lounging in the living room or having your meals in the dining room.
Everything could be controlled from an iPad, from light switches to air-conditioning temperature and even the closing or opening of curtains. While it was in Korean, you can roughly gauge what button is for what based on their icons.
There was also a Bluetooth speaker and a couple of books (mostly in Korean).
Over at the dining area was a basket full of welcome amenities, which included a whole bottle of wine, potato chips, chocolates, and bags of drip coffee from Terarosa Coffee.
The kitchen is well equipped with appliances like a washer and dryer, a microwave, a refrigerator, and a water purifier. Much like the other STAYFOLIO stays we’ve experienced, Usmeer also comes with a nice range of homeware ranging from plates, and bowls to wine glasses.
A Cozy Stay
The bedroom is one of the smaller areas for Usmeer and is equipped with a queen-sized bed and a small corner to hang your clothes. There’s also a standing TV which makes snuggling in bed even easier.
For groups with more than 2 people, there’s an attic that can fit a mattress. The attic is also linked to a rooftop terrace, where you can have an outdoor picnic. We couldn’t use it due to the weather, but we imagine it to be a perfect spot for afternoon coffee as well.
The bathroom is also one of our favourite corners of Usmeer. It comes with a brick bathtub where one can take foot baths, half-body baths, or even just a quick soak. While the kitchen sink was equipped with Aesop hand soaps, the bathroom carries travel-sized Molten Brown amenities.
An Escape From Seoul
We really enjoyed our stay at Usmeer, which allowed us to fully soak in the ocean views of Yangyang. We also think this place would be perfect for small families who want to visit the beach. Thanks to its location, visiting the beach would be fuss-free and convenient!
There’s also a temple right beside the stay that’s perfect for sightseeing.
You’ll also find lots of restaurants, cafes, and convenience stores a short walk away. If you intend to travel out further, we didn’t face any issues getting a taxi via the KakaoTaxi app here.
