Starfield Suwon: Largest Mall in Suwon with A Stunning, Grander Starfield Library

A new mall has taken South Korea by storm, and it’s none other than Starfield Suwon, the largest mall to open in the city of Suwon, just an hour’s journey from Seoul.

Starfield Library in Starfield Suwon

New Shopping Mall in Korea

Operated by the Shinsegae Group, Starfield Suwon has 8 underground levels and 8 above-ground levels – although most of the shops are located above ground. According to Korean media (and our personal experience), this mall is definitely trendier than the usual Starfield shopping malls, which tend to be more family-centric.

According to local media, the new mall is hoping to attract a younger crowd – those in their 20s-30s.

A Larger, Grander Starfield Library

The most notable thing about Starfield Suwon is the new Starfield Library, which is larger and grander than its iconic counterpart in COEX Mall in Seoul.

Here at Starfield Suwon, the library occupies space from the 4th to 7th floor, reaching up to 22m in height, and is home to more than 3,500 books. The natural light flooding in from the skylight windows made the library look even more majestic in real life.

Notable Brands in Starfield Suwon

It might be part of their strategy to attract younger crowds, but the mall does contain a notable number of popular cafes such as Bonanza Coffee Roasters, JungJiYoung Coffee Roasters, and Cafe Knotted.

The popular London Bagel Museum is also expected to open in Starfield Suwon soon.

We also spotted other familiar brands like Super Matcha.

Another notable cafe is Vinyl, an LP-listening cafe with a view of the Byeolmadang Library. This is their second outlet, after their first outlet in Seongsu, which we visited back in 2023.

Shopaholics will also be glad to know that the mall is packed with a mix of popular street brands and iconic Korean shopping brands such as Olive Young, Chicor, ABC Grand Stage, ALAND, Musinsa Standard (opening in Apr 2024), thisisneverthat, Obscura, Salomon and more.

Perhaps more catered to the locals, but there’s also a fitness club in Starfield Suwon, with amenities like an indoor swimming pool, indoor tennis court, indoor golf area, sauna, and more.

How To Go To Starfield Suwon

The way to Starfield Suwon is pretty straightforward. All you need to do is take the Subway Line 1 to Hwaseo Station, and the mall is a quick 3 to 5-minute walk from the station.

The journey takes around an hour from Seoul Station.

Time To Explore Suwon

With the opening of this new mega mall, we do not doubt that more people are going to be adding Suwon to their list of places to visit in Korea. The Starfield Library itself is a good enough reason for a visit to Suwon, but don’t just stop there! Suwon itself is a city filled with history, and it’s worth spending more time exploring the city.
