After what seems like an entire year of circuit breaker (it’s only been 2weeks+), working from home is definitely one of the new norms. However, is working from home going to be the future of the workforce?

We break down the pros and cons of working from home for you.

Working from Home Realities
How many can relate?

Flexibility

Working from home means you can take breaks at any moment, do your work with music blasting in your room and your lunch any time you want.

Because of this additional “freedom”, you might find yourself less productive and taking more breaks than usual. Lunchtime may also exceed unknowingly occasionally. Not to mention the office drama that continues in your home where co-workers accuse you of “slacking” too much.

Working from home means extra responsibility. With newfound flexibility, you must learn how to balance your time well. I mean, you would not want your boss breathing down your neck and checking up on you every few seconds.

More Work Done?

Some people may be more productive at home because they are in a comfortable and familiar environment, with no one to disturb them every once in a while. You are able to customize your own environment to the way you like it.

Because of the comforts of working from home, you may find yourself working overtime unknowingly. There is no need to clock out and travel back home, hence some might find themselves working 24/7.

Tip: Remember to craft a schedule you can stick to and maintain a healthy work-life balance even at home.

More Time with Loved Ones

Working from Home means you have more time for loved ones. More time to make homecooked meals for them and more time spent with them.

However, spending more time together means there is a higher chance of quarrelling. There will be times of disagreement and getting into disputes will become a norm.

Tip: Be more understanding during this WFH period and set proper boundaries at home.

Dress Comfortably

Working from home means doing work in your pyjamas! No more spending 30 minutes in the morning rushing to catch your bus to work. However, make sure to throw a proper top over if you ever have Zoom or Skype meetings.

We are also pretty sure there’s no point in dressing up at home because it’s a sauna in Singapore. By 12 pm, you’re probably typing your reports with your keyboard covered in sweat. Don’t you miss your air-conditioned office? We sure do.

More Time

With the travel to work aspect removed, you have more time at hand. This means waking up later or being able to prepare a nice breakfast. However, this also means more time for other distractions as well.

We know everyone does this – walking to the kitchen and opening the fridge. But let’s face it, no matter how many times you open the fridge, there won’t be anything new. We miss our office pantry.

Working for Home isn’t as dreamy as it seems. At this point of time in the circuit breaker, we find ourselves missing the interaction in the office. Do you miss your colleagues?

The big question is: Would you rather work from home or work from the office in the future? Let us know!
