Thinking of What to Do at Home? Here Are Some Ideas for You

Singapore is a small country, but every weekend seems to be filled with events and places to go. With occasional pop-up markets such as Artbox or Chatuchak, Singaporeans are constantly spoilt for choice when it comes to weekend plans. However, occasionally, we all have the urge to just stay at home.

For most introverts, staying at home and doing nothing is a joy. On the other side of the spectrum, having to spend an entire day cooped at home is probably one of the most difficult things to do for the extroverts.

A study has shown that 57% of Singaporeans feel guilty for taking breaks and doing nothing. We are here to help you make that stay-at-home day as productive as possible, or simply provide ideas for those who need things to do when bored at home.

It’s also not a bad idea to avoid crowds during this Covid-19 outbreak.

Read a Book

One of the easiest ways to pass time is by reading a book. These applications make it super easy for you to pick a read.

NLB Mobile App

Don’t have time to browse at the library? The NLB Mobile App allows you to search and read while on-the-go.

Ranging from bestsellers, biographies to travel guides and news – you can find almost anything. E-books and audiobooks on the app are automatically returned, so you don’t have to worry about overdue fines.

Amazon Kindle App

You don’t need to own a kindle to gain access to the millions of books on the kindle store. The app is available for download on iOS, Android, PC and Mac. These e-books are usually inexpensive. There are also a couple of good free reads on the app as well.

There are many other ways to find books to read such as the Google eBookStore or Public Library, a website that provides access to many public domains and out-of-print books.

Learn a New Language

Thinking of doing some travelling in another country? Why not pick up the basics of a new language that you’re interested in? There are so many resources available online such as Youtube tutorial videos and even dedicated websites that teach languages.

Korean

With the Korean wave continuing to be a hit, Korean is undoubtedly one of the more popular languages to pick up these days. A favourite site among Korean learners is TalkToMeInKorean, where they provide quality lessons for free.

Thai

Bangkok is one of Singaporean’s favourite travel destinations. Apart from learning how to get a discount in Thai, learn how to hold a basic conversation in Thai from websites such as Thai Language and Loecsen.

Vietnamese

Apart from Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi, Vietnam is home to other popular destinations such as Sapa and Ninh Binh. Some of the prettiest places in Vietnam are in the countryside where English is not used as often.

A great place to learn Vietnamese is from Youtube Channel VietnamesePod101.

French

One might have some difficulty learning to pronounce French just by looking at its written form. Hence, we highly recommend learning French through Youtube channels. Comme Une Française is a great channel to learn useful expressions used by natives.

You can also check out FrenchPod101.

Do Some Spring Cleaning

Did you know that spring cleaning burns lots of calories? Reorganizing your wardrobe and mopping the floor is not just great exercise, but also a productive way to pass the time.

Exercise

Whether you like it or not, exercise is one of the ways where we can boost our immunity system. Moderate exercise has been found to reduce the risk of getting an upper respiratory tract infection.

Choose from hot favourites such as Crash Landing on You – an unlikely romance between a North Korean soldier and a South Korean billionaire heiress.

Other trending titles include The Witcher, Yanxi Palace, Friends and Modern Family.

If you like Korean dramas and variety shows, Viu is also a great alternative.
