BTS member Suga has always been involved in his creative ventures in music production and creation, culminating in his first solo album D-DAY. The new documentary SUGA: Road To D-Day on Disney+ follows the experiences that inspired his album.
A Personal Yet Painful Journey
The documentary was perfectly timed to the launch of D-Day on April 21 2023. Much like all of his music, this album is personal and comes from a place of reflection.
It starts with Suga confessing that he has ‘nothing… [he’d] like to talk about now’, which promoted him to look outwards for inspiration.
The 90-minute film then follows Suga as he embarks on a journey around the world seeking experiences for his songwriting, where he even meets artists like Halsey and Anderson .Paak.
These scenes are interwoven with moments of him sightseeing, songwriting and simply interacting with the people around him, creating a comfortable watching pace.
Suga is honest and introspective throughout the entire film, speaking truthfully to the audience about his fears, insecurities and struggles with his career.
His talent and responsible work ethic also shine through in the way he works. It’s both awe-inspiring and comforting to see him translate his most personal thoughts into a powerful and soulful album.
