Stuck at home with nowhere to go for Mother’s Day? Without the options of dining out and spending the day outside, here are some things you can do to brighten up your mum’s day while spending the day at home.
Cook Her A Special Meal
What’s a better way than to show your mom some love by cooking her a special meal? Especially if you don’t know your way around the kitchen, your mom would be so touched by the gesture. Just make sure not to burn down the kitchen.
Some easy things to whip up:
- French Toast topped with Berries
- Pancakes
- Pasta
- One-pot Chicken Stew
If you’re the type who can’t even cook instant noodles, why not check out some rice cooker and microwave recipes?

Help with House Chores
Mom deserves a special day off, so why not relieve her with some household chores? It’s a good time to ask her for some pointers if it’s your first time picking up the broom or using the washing machine. This way, you can help with the chores every once in a while in the future as well.
We are sure if you took out some time to clean up your room, your mom would be more than happy with that gesture.
Have A Stay-Home Spa Day
With spas and aesthetic clinics closed due to the circuit breaker, spa vouchers aren’t the best option for a Mother’s Day gift. Instead, let mom have a full-fledged spa experience at home.
Face scrubs are a great way to get rid of dead skin and they make you feel instantly refreshed. The best part? You don’t have to head out to buy one because they can be easily made at home.
If you have granulated sugar lying around the house, here’s how to make a face scrub:
- 1 tsp of granulated sugar
- 2 drops of water
- 1-2 drops of lavender/tea tree essential oil (optional)
Mix everything together and gently rub onto a clean face using the tip of your fingers. Make sure to avoid the eyes and remove by rinsing with water. Follow up with the rest of your skincare routine.
If you have coconut oil, you can also make this simple sugar scrub by using 1 tbsp of coconut oil with 2 tbsp of granulated sugar.
You could also have a sheet mask session with your mom or make your very own leave-on face mask. Our personal favourite is the matcha honey face mask. Mix 1 tsp of matcha powder with 1 tbsp of honey (use manuka honey if you’re feeling fancy).
Spread evenly on face avoiding the eyes and leave on for 15 mins. Rinse off with water and continue with skincare routine. Make sure to snap lots of photos with your mom during the 15mins!
During this stay-home spa session, make some cucumber water and light some scented candles to elevate the entire experience.
Digging Out Old Photos And Looking Through Them
Too much time? Why not dig out some old photos and have a HTHT session with your mom?
Ask your mom how she met your dad and relive some of the most exciting moments of her life as a family. We’re pretty sure your mom has had some crazy days in her youth as well. This is also a good chance to bond with your mom and strengthen relationships.
How are you going to spend this year’s Mother’s Day? Despite the circuit breaker measures, we’re sure it’s still going to be a lovely celebration with your family!
