When it comes to the name Spruce, we think of their previous outlet over at the Old Fire Station. Now, they are located in 2 places: HillV2 and Phoenix Park. We visited Spruce over at HillV2 recently and here’s a quick review:
Afternoon High Tea Set
We opted for the High Tea for 2 Set which is only available from Mon-Fri, 2:30pm-5:30pm (excluding PHs). For $56, it comes with 4 savoury and 6 sweet types of morsels and 2 non-alcoholic beverages.
Here’s what you can find in the set:
- Rockmelon with Parma Ham
- Mushroom Croquette
- Smoked Salmon with Cream Cheese
- Crab Cake with Garlic Aioli
- Berries & Cream Puff
- Matcha Swiss Roll
- Passionfruit Popsicle
- Mini Cheesecake
- Cranberry Scone
- Pandan Panna Cotta with Rose Sago
Some of our favourites included the Mushroom Croquette which tasted like mushroom soup compressed into the shape of a ball and the Smoked Salmon with Cream Cheese. As for sweets, while we aren’t usually fans of bandung, the Pandan Panna Cotta with Rose Sago was surprisingly delicious and creamy. The cranberry scone was a little on the dry side, but the Passionfruit Popsicle made up for it.
For drinks, we went for the Iced Teas in White Grape and Elderflower flavour. They weren’t too sweet, which was a good thing.
Other Mains at Spruce
If you’re heading there for lunch or dinner instead, you’ll realise that the menu at Spruce is really huge. You can find mains like Baby Back Ribs ($29), to pasta dishes like Ricotta Tortellini ($22), Burgers, Wings, Pizza, Soup, Salads & more!
Boston Clam Chowda
The Boston Clam Chowda ($14) comes in a size that’s great for sharing among 2 pax. Served alongside was a piece of buttered toast, which tasted great when dipped into the soup. Inside the creamy concoction, you’ll find a generous portion of white clams.
Sassy Wings
One of Spruce’s most popular menu items are the deep-fried wings. We opted for the Sassy Wings ($17), which are tossed in a special sweet-spicy lime sauce. The wings were crispy on the outside, while tender on the inside.
The sauce gave it a sort of sticky texture outside, but we loved the combination of zesty lime and slight spice which made this dish one we continually reached out for!
Sous Vide Beef Short Ribs
For our main, the Sous Vide Beef Short Ribs ($33) came with a side of sous vide egg, broccolini, mashed potatoes, and a drizzle of veal jus reduction. The Australian short ribs were slow-cooked for 48 hours, which gave them a tender texture.
Cafe in Hillview
If you ever find yourself in or nearby Hillview, Spruce is a great spot for lunch/dinner and only a short walk away from the Downtown Line. If you need a quick breather, opt for their high tea set during weekdays!
