Sick Cat Sign (식캣사인): Hidden Coffee Bar in Yongsan, Drip Coffee Named After Sitcom ‘Friends’

Hidden on the 2nd floor of a building in Yongsan-gu is Sick Cat Sign (식캣사인), a rest coffee bar where customers can visit for coffee and desserts. The cafe opened back in Oct 2021, so it’s still relatively new.

Old-School Vibes All Around

식캣사인 Sick Cat Sign Cafe Interior

Sick Cat Sign Cafe is of a cozy size and can hold probably less than 20 at one time. There’s a large communal table right in the middle with power plugs available for use, reminding us of huge library tables.

The walls are decorated with multiple posters and if you look around closely, you’ll even find spots decorated with photos from the popular sitcom, Friends.

On the modular shelf near the entrance, there were various items that brought out the old-school vibe even more. From items like cassette tapes, cassette tape players, and an LP player, one can really enjoy the 80s-90s vibes.

The seats near the window was our favourite spot, letting in lots of natural light. It also had a view of a rather old-looking traditional Korean house, which provided a nice contrast from the hip retro vibes.

Just simply sitting there and looking outside was healing itself.

Menu at Sick Cat Sign

To accompany your time at Sick Cat Sign is a range of coffee, drinks, and desserts. For coffee, you have the usual Flat White (4,500won) and Latte (4,500won).

They also have filter coffee that’s named after 3 characters from Friends. Monica (4,500won) is a filter with nutty and sweet chocolate notes, Rachel (4,500won) is one with notes of sweet and sour ripe fruits, while Phoebe (6,000won) is single-origin that switches every month.

As for desserts, you can take a look at what’s on display. There was a range of scones when we visited, with flavours like Butter, Apple Cinnamon and Earl Grey. For cold refreshing treats, there were also cakes in the fridge such as strawberry flavoured ones.

The desserts do change from time to time. For example, from mid-April till summer, they have a coriander lemon bar for sale.

We opted for the Deep Vanilla Iced Latte (6,000won) with our Apple Cinnamon Scone (3,800won). The scone fared better than the one at Oats Coffee, with a crispy sugar exterior and moist center. There were also apple bits hidden within the scone, which added a nice burst of apple flavours.
