Orion Chocolate Churros Flavoured Turtle Chips (Kkobuk Chips) Review: The Best One Yet

Kkobuk Chips (꼬북칩) are one of the most popular snacks in Korea. Kkobuk chips are also known as turtle chips because of their resemblance to a turtle’s shell. Some other Kkobuk Chip flavours include corn soup and injeolmi. Orion’s Chocolate Churros flavoured turtle chips are the latest, and undoubtedly the most popular one thus far.

Difficult To Find Even In Korea

The Chocolate Churros Flavoured Turtle Chip was first released back in Sep 2020. Since then, the snack was so popular among Koreans that it’s difficult to find in marts and convenience stores.

Upon restocking on online malls, the Chocolate Churros snack would be sold out within seconds.

According to this news report, 3.5 million bags of Chocolate Churros Turtle Chips were sold within the first 50 days of launch. The recently reached a sale of 13 million bags this month and it is estimated that 100,000 bags of the snack are sold each day.

Chocolate Churros Turtle Chips Review

Like the other flavours, the chocolate churros chip comes in its turtle shell shape, with 4 distinct layers. You can also spot some sugar sprinkles on the chip, just like the usual churros you see on the streets of Korea.

Orion has been constantly listening to its consumers who have been requesting higher chocolate content. The first version of the snack contained only 19.2% chocolate but was increased to 19.6%, with the latest one having 24.7% chocolate content.

We managed to try the original 19.2% one as well as the 19.6% version one. (Not much difference tbh)

Just going to put this here first: the snack lives up to its name, it really tastes like a chocolate churro!

It’s crispy and every layer had a nice thin chocolate coating. You would expect the snack to be dead sweet with the chocolate and sugar sprinkles, but it’s actually okay. There also seems to be a tinge of cinnamon which makes it feel more like a churro.

The chocolate fragrance lingers in your mouth for a bit after each bite, and it’s just really addictive, both texture and taste-wise.

Fun fact: The chocolate churro turtle chip weighs more than the usual corn soup flavoured one.

Korean Snack Available on Shopee

There’s no need to travel to Korea to get some of Korea’s hottest snacks. Korean marts in Singapore carry the corn soup flavoured one, and if you’re lucky, the Injeolmi flavoured one as well. The Chocolate Churros Turtle Chip is easily available on Shopee.

If you’re a first-time Shopee user, you can enjoy $7 off with a minimum spend of $15 from now till 30 April 2021 using the code ‘SHOPEEXMDC’.
