Cha Cha Tea Club (차차티클럽): Hidden Tea House Located Within An Alley Near Dongdaemun

We simply love finding cafes in the most unusual spots in Korea. Cha Cha Tea Club near Dongdaemun is one of those places. A teahouse situated within a hanok along a secluded and somewhat suspicious alley.

Tea House Near Dongdaemun

Alley leading to Cha Cha Tea Club Dongdaemun

Finding Cha Cha Tea Club was no easy feat, with the alley having multiple motel signs, we thought to ourselves, is this really a place for an aesthetic cafe? Well, turns out it was. Walking forward after throwing away the doubts, we found Cha Cha Tea Club’s bright sign indicating that we were at the right place.

Entering the teahouse immediately felt like we were in a different neighbourhood. With white drapes hanging near the open ceiling and a hanok interior, the teahouse had a sense of calm and peace, a contrast between what we just experienced seconds before entering.

There were displays of different tea leaves and tea-related items right in the center of the teahouse, with multiple seats scattered throughout the space.

Menu at Cha Cha Tea Club

Much like its name, Cha Cha Tea Club mainly serves different types of teas. There are different varieties of White Tea, Oolong, Red Tea, and Pu’er priced between 9,000won to 10,000won.

They also have a small selection of desserts to go with your tea, such as Rice Cake Castella (7,500won) and Persimmon Choco Salami (8,300won).

For the tea, they provide a tray containing everything you will need to brew the tea. Yes, you get to experience making your own tea here! From an electric kettle to strainers, the staff will show you how to make it once, and you can simply follow the steps after.

The tea leaves can undergo up to 4 to 5 rounds of brewing, which meant around 10 cups of tea. It was a rather soothing and healing activity, which we recommend to solo travellers to Korea.

We opted for the Black Rice Matcha Cake (7,800won) which was a stack of matcha and black rice sponge cakes with matcha cream and chestnut cream layered in between.
