Gravitate (그래비테이트): Hidden Rooftop Cafe Right Next To Suwon Hwaseong Haenggung Palace

Suwon is a city that’s easily accessible from Seoul via subway and bus. Its location makes a nice place for a day trip out of Seoul. Much like Seoul, Suwon has its own share of cafes and popular spots to explore. Gravitate (그래비테이트) is a perfect cafe to visit if you’re nearby the Hwaseong Haenggung Palace!

Suwon Rooftop Cafe

Gravitate (그래비테이트) Outdoor Seats during Sunset

A stone’s throw away from the entrance of Hwaseong Haenggung Palace, Cafe Gravitate is located on the 3F of a building, with a rooftop seating area. The seats will get you a view of the surrounding hills, houses, and the traditional palaces nearby.

During autumn, you can even get a nice shot with the ginkgo trees in the background.

If alfresco seating isn’t your thing, they do have some indoor seats right beside the counter.

Menu at Gravitate (그래비테이트)

You’re probably pretty familiar with the story of how Newton discovered the concept of gravity. Some of the menu items here revolve around that story, with apple elements infused into the desserts and drinks.

Other than those items, they have espresso-based drinks like Americano (5,000won), Café Latte (6,000won), and Vanilla Latte (6,500won). Non-coffee drinkers can opt for their fruit teas, such as Lychee Pear (6,500won), Raspberry Earl Grey (6,500won), or Blueberry Jasmine (6,500won).

For your espresso-based drinks, you can choose between 2 blends. The first blend is known as Pale Blue Dot, which has notes of Jasmine, Rose, Red Tea, and Milk Chocolate.

The second blend is Artemis, made using a blend of Colombia, Kenya, and Guatemala beans, which has notes of Dark Chocolate, Red Tea, Cacao Nibs, Peach, and Rum.

Apple Einspanner

Almost every table here had an order of the Apple Einspanner (6,500won) which is undoubtedly one of the cafe’s signature items.

Instead of the usual cream, the one by Gravitate uses Apple Cream. While we thought that the combination of apple cream with a latte would sound weird, the two actually pair quite well together. There’s a light fragrance of apple that comes with each sip of the intense coffee.

Newton’s Apple

One of the 3 desserts available at Gravitate Cafe is the Newton’s Apple (8,500won) which comes in the form of a bright red apple. It’s made using mascarpone cream with apple compote hidden in the center. A combination of fruity apple flavours with creamy mascarpone.
