If there’s one thing you have to experience for yourself, it’s witnessing the shade of emerald at one of Jeju’s beaches. Fortunately for you, there are lots of places you can visit – rain or shine, cold or hot, to see it for yourself. Making it to our list is Beryl, a cafe near Hyeopjae Beach in West Jeju.
Cafe near Hyeopjae Beach in Jeju
Located a walkable distance away from the highly visited Hyeopjae Beach area is Beryl. The cafe is hidden within an alley and is unnoticeable unless you’re specifically looking for it.
The first thing you’ll see upon entering Beryl is an unobstructed view of Hyeopjae Beach, and it’s literally right in front of you. If you pass through the glass windows, you’ll be able to step into the ocean.
And they have a door for you to do just that!
Perhaps one of the most unique things about this cafe in Jeju, is how there’s a small “island” you can walk to. They placed a chair there, which makes for a unique photo spot.
Do be careful though, the rocks are quite bumpy and there’s not much flat surface to walk on.
After a small adventure, head back to your seat, which could be one by the windows, or around the communal table right smack in the middle of the cafe.
Menu at Beryl Jeju
You can expect a variety of drinks ranging from coffee, and tea to ades here at Beryl. There are items such as the most basic Americano (6,000won) to more unique ones like the Beryl Bada Latte (8,500won).
They also have non-coffee options such as the Green Tangerine Ade (8,000won) and Grapefruit Ade (8,000won) which are made using handmade concentrates, otherwise known as cheong in Korean.
We tried the Beryl Bada Latte, which was a latte served with blue syrup and some cream on top. They advised us to try it by mixing everything well, to balance out all the sweetness.
To warm ourselves up, we also opted for the Hallabong Tea, which proved to be a comforting cup of tea.
For desserts, there are multiple options such as a Milk Pudding (6,500won), a Caramel Petit Gateau (7,000won), and Amaretti (3,500won). We opted for the Hallabong Petit Gateau (7,500won) because of the adorable visuals – it looked exactly like a hallabong fruit!
Inside, there was cream and some hallabong fruit pulp, but we did wish for more pronounced hallabong notes and flavours.
Jeju Cafe with Ocean View
If you’re looking for a spot to enjoy the ocean view of Jeju without having to endure the strong winds and cold, Beryl is a spot we highly recommend! During summer, we wonder if we’re able to just jump into the sea from the cafe to enjoy a swim, if yes, that’d be quite a cool thing to do in Jeju.
But till then, we’ll settle for a relaxing time enjoying the view from the cafe.
