Hokkaido is one of those places that’s pretty all year round. Picturesque sceneries, fresh seafood, natural hot springs and ski resorts – the list is never-ending.
Recently, a post showcasing a B&B on a Facebook group has gone viral with more than 3.6K shares. The place looks breath-taking with snow-capped mountains surrounding the accommodation.
Turns out, the bed and breakfast in Nakafurano belong to a Singaporean-Japanese couple.
Marilyn was inspired to lead a non-urban lifestyle after a trip to Hokkaido back in 2017. The couple visited Nakafurano and fell in love with the place. It felt amazingly peaceful and the view of Mt. Tokachidake captured their hearts.
When Marilyn’s other half, Kanji, was working in Singapore, he was intrigued by the entrepreneurial mindset that Singaporeans had, which motivated him to start his own business.
Since Kanji always wanted to try running an accommodation, the couple moved to Nakafurano to enjoy a countryside lifestyle, while running a B&B.
B&B Plus+ Shooting Star
The B&B comprises of 4 themed en-suites and a yoga studio, surrounded by farmlands, with the view of Mt Tokachidake.
At night, you may get to see a sky filled with stars and there’s even a possibility you get to encounter with a real shooting star.
There’s actually a cute story behind the name of the B&B. Kanji was born in Hokkaido and Marilyn, in Singapore.
According to Marilyn, stars are one of the well-recognised symbols of Hokkaido, the official emblem of Hokkaido is also a star. The word “星” (star in Mandarin) is also the abbreviation for “Singapore” in the Japanese language.
She described themselves as two shooting stars that landed here in Nakafurano.
Singapore Experience in Hokkaido
This might excite non-Singaporeans more. The B&B has a Singapore experience for anyone interested, where you’ll be served an authentic Singaporean dinner, such as Laksa and Chicken Rice.
It even comes with a 15 min free Yoga session with Marilyn. The twist? The session is conducted in Singlish leh!
