Located in a neighbourhood 30 minutes away from Jeju Airport, JOCHA transports one to a calm space with its carefully thought-out spatial design.
Experience Changing Space Over Time
JOCHA, which also means a short time, uses various designs along with the time of the day to showcase the different atmospheres of Jeju.
Upon entering JOCHA, you are introduced to a corridor leading to the 3 different spaces of the stay. It is split into a living room on the left, an indoor hot tub area right in front, and a bedroom on the right.
Living Room
The balance of light and shadows from the living room creates a sense of calm. The interior is mainly achromatic, so there’s not much to get distracted by. Naturally, you’re drawn to the large window with a view of Jeju’s Ocean.
During high tide, you get a glimpse of the blue sea, and as the tide draws back, you get a view of Jeju’s iconic black lava rocks.
A cut in the ceiling lets a ray of light in, creating lines and interesting angles that change depending on the time of day.
Unlike your usual stays, there isn’t a couch here. Instead, there’s an elevated platform right in the middle of the room, where you can sit down and just admire the scenery.
A curation kit is hidden below one of these panels, containing guidelines for the stay and how to use certain items. There’s also a book, but it’s in Korean.
The living room is also where the kitchen is. From afar, the counter looks like one you’d find at a teahouse, with shelves of glasses and mugs. The back counter is also equipped with items like a Bluetooth speaker, a matcha kit, and an electric kettle.
The tabletop has your usual kitchen items, a sink, an induction cooker, and a microwave along with a fully equipped cabinet of pots, pans, and utensils.
Hidden in the living room is also a small corner that fits a queen-sized bed.
To access the outside garden, simply head out through the large ceiling-to-floor windows. Here’s also where we got to witness a gorgeous Jeju sunset.
Bath
There are two toilets located in the living room and bedroom, and each one is well-equipped with amenities from Aesop (shampoo, conditioner, and body wash). There’s also a Dyson hairdryer in each toilet, along with towels, hand wash, and toothpaste.
The most interesting aspect of the toilet was probably the toilet bowl. It plays out classical music each time you use it.
Apart from the two toilets is also a special room where the indoor hot tub area is located. Here, you get to soak in warm water while enjoying a view. There’s also incense available here, for that extra relaxation factor.
Bedroom
There’s a separate space for another queen bed, and this is probably our favourite corner of the stay. Upon entering, you’ll be greeted with a mini lounge area with a high ceiling. The curtains are controllable via a remote, so you can decide how much light to let in.
There’s a loft area where the second bed is located, and here, the windows are at eye level, offering a view of the far-off ocean.
A Morning with Matcha
Mornings here are a lot more fun, as JOCHA provides a matcha kit. You’ll find everything you need to make matcha, from ceremonial grade matcha to a whisk.
They even provide packets of milk in the fridge, in case you’re in the mood for a matcha latte, which was what we made. We also heated some bagels from London Bagel Museum using their microwave with a toaster function, which made for an amazing breakfast.
Relaxing Stay in Jeju
Our stay in Jeju was nothing short of idyllic. From top-notch amenities to thoughtfully designed corners, the small details scattered throughout JOCHA truly enhanced our stay experience.
