When it comes to accommodations in Korea, one thing you should experience for yourself is a Hanok stay. There are lots to choose from, thanks to multiple websites such as STAYFOLIO, a place where we source for aesthetic stays in Korea. If you’re afraid of not being able to adapt to a traditional Hanok stay, no worries – lots of them are equipped with modern facilities, such as Digeut House.
Modern Hanok Stay Near Bukchon Hanok Village
Digeut House is located in the Anguk neighbourhood, and to reach it you’ll need to walk up some stairs/hills and venture through some alleys. However, once you reach the area where Digeut House is located, you’ll feel a sense of calm and quiet, a stark contrast compared to the bustling main roads.
The stay retains a traditional hanok structure and layout, with the usual ㄷshape. You’ll be welcomed with an overview of the hanok, with gorgeous wooden fixtures and a mini yard in the middle. First thoughts: Are we in a K-drama?
Well, not surprising because several commercials have been shot here, along with a prominent interview with Tom Holland & Jake Gyllenhaal during the Korean promotions for Spiderman: Far From Home.
The space is split into three sections, the bedrooms, a kitchen, and a media/tea area.
Comfortable Hanok Stay
Like most hanoks, you sleep on the floor instead of on a bed. There are two rooms here at Digeut House, with each room coming with 2 thick mattresses. There’s also air-conditioning for summer nights, as well as heated floors for cold winter nights.
The bathroom is also split into dry and wet areas. There are two sinks in the powder room area so you don’t need to fight for them in the morning, and it comes with amenities like face towels, handwash, and toothpaste tabs. There are 2 bathrooms on each side of the powder room, and one of it comes with a shower area.
If this is not enough, there’s also an outdoor bath in the yard, with a gorgeous view of the hanok. You can use it as a foot bath or as a bathtub, where you soak your troubles away.
Fully Equipped Kitchen
The first thing you’ll notice when entering the kitchen is an entire wall decorated with scents and Tibetan singing bowls. Sometimes, the space here is used to conduct wellness workshops like a Soundbath or Yoga.
There’s also a Bluetooth speaker that you can connect to.
At the center of the kitchen is a huge wooden table that can sit up to 8 pax. Apart from the usual equipment like pots, plates, bowls, and utensils, Digeut House also has a water dispenser that dispenses hot, warm, and cold water.
There’s also equipment for you to make drip coffee in the morning, beans and grinder provided!
Enjoy A Film Or A Cup Of Tea
Right next to the kitchen is the cinema room, which comes with a comfortable couch (no lie, one of our editors almost fell asleep here) and a beam projector. There’s Netflix and YouTube so it’s super easy to pick something to watch.
If watching shows aren’t your thing, right next to the cinema room is a tearoom – a dedicated area for you to brew tea. You can open the door and you’ll get a gorgeous view of the entire hanok from this corner – talk about tea with a view.
Unique Stays in Korea
Even if you decide to stay in a hotel during your trip to Seoul, we recommend trying to fit in a hanok stay for a night! While one might argue that it’s no different from any other stay, we really did feel more rested thanks to each corner being thoughtfully planned out by the owner.
