Bukchon Binkwan by Rakkojae: Hanok Stay In Bukchon Hanok Village With City View

If you’re looking for a unique way to experience Korean culture, we highly recommend a hanok stay. Bukchon Binkwan by Rakkojae offers a stylish hanok stay in the cultural street of Bukchon Hanok Village!

We’ve tried their other stay Rakkojae Seoul and had a memorable experience, so we were curious about this stay.

Getting There

Entrance to Bukchon Binkwan by Rakkojae

Bukchon Binkwan by Rakkojae is about 15 minutes walk from Anguk station. It’s located up a hill, which might make it challenging if you have heavy luggage.

The hanok stay is on the third floor but don’t worry! There’s a lift inside to help you bring your luggage up.

Traditional Hanok With A City View

Unlike the usual hanok confined within four walls, this stay boasted an open front yard.

It offered the perfect bird’s eye view of Seoul and Bukchon Hanok Village that’s great for soaking in the sun.

The hanok was majestic. It was built over 100 years ago but has been rejuvenated, blending traditional light brown wood with modern concrete walls.

We admired it in the early morning and it was practically glowing! The wood soaked in the golden colour of the sun, making it extra pretty.

Unlike Rakkojae Seoul which had a full garden, this stay had minimal foliage aside from some pine trees.

Despite this, we feel it retained some privacy and intimacy from the outside world. It felt like a secret escape from the noise below.

Sleeping quarters in Gunnnanbang

There are 3 family suites: Gunnanbang, Sarangbang and Anbang. Every suite has a bedroom, bathroom and common area. Each one also has a separate entrance to keep the privacy of guests.

We toured two suites: Gunnunbang and Sarangbang.

Each suite has a base occupancy of 3 and a maximum occupancy of 4. You can join both suites for a combined occupancy of 6!

Everything was comfortable and cosy, decorated with many vintage and Korean motifs. The sleeping area had thick and comfortable futons which gave a good night’s sleep.

Gunnunbang had a bigger common room, acting like a sunroom. You can mingle on the comfortable wooden floors or just admire the details of the roof!

The futons were framed by vibrant blue dividers that added a nice pop of colour.

Sarangbang is smaller but just as comfortable, with a cosy window-side seating area that directly overlooks the front garden.

We went during winter and they provided heated blankets. There’s air conditioning too so you’ll be comfortable in the hotter seasons.

The amenities were also impressive! Every room had a coffee machine, mini fridge and water kettle. Bathrooms were fitted with modern finishings and toiletries.

You can include breakfast with your stay at no added cost, but we were unable to try it this time. We liked the hearty selection at Rakkojae Seoul so we recommend including it in your booking for the full experience.
